Our Story
शिल्प + Shop = ShilpShop Studio
The name says it all. Shilp (शिल्प) is a Sanskrit word from Devanagari meaning craft or art — and that is exactly what lives at the heart of everything we make. Paired with Shop, ShilpShop Studio was born: a place where ancient craft meets a modern home.
The Story Behind the Studio
ShilpShop Studio began as a deeply personal journey — a love for working with hands, for the meditative rhythm of knotting cord, and for creating things that carry meaning. Macrame, one of the world’s oldest textile arts, felt like the perfect expression of shilp: patient, intentional, and rooted in tradition.
What started as a quiet creative practice grew into a studio, and the studio grew into a community of people who believe that handmade things are worth cherishing.
The Craft Behind Every Piece
Every item in our collection is made entirely by hand — no machines, no shortcuts. We work with natural cotton rope, jute, and sustainably sourced materials chosen for their warmth, texture, and longevity.
Each knot — a square knot, a spiral hitch, a gathering knot — is tied one at a time, with care. This is why no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The slight variations you see are not imperfections; they are the signature of the human hands that made it.
What Makes Our Pieces Unique
- Rooted in शिल्प (Shilp) — every piece honours the tradition of handcraft
- Truly handmade — crafted entirely by hand, from start to finish
- Natural materials — cotton, jute, and wood that age beautifully
- One of a kind — slight variations are proof of the human touch
- Made with intention — every piece is finished and inspected before it reaches you
Our Promise to You
